Offshore Flow

"Offshore Flow" is a meteorlogical event that occurs when air moves from land to sea and produces dry, sunny weather. My team-mate, Beth, likes to say that when you live on the Monterey Peninsula, the sweetest words in the English language are "Offshore Flow" in the winter. Thus while the rest of the country has been besieged by record freezing temperatures, record-setting snow fall and the myriad of inconveniences that shut down freeways, cancel flights and close schools, the Monterey Peninsula has enjoyed the sunniest and warmest January in years. Weeks and weeks of 70 degree days, endless sunshine and crystal clear skies...We have all been busy playing hookey, playing golf, sailing, hiking, sunning and playing more golf! So, while we do feel really sorry for our relatives and friends in New York, Massachusetts, Michigan and the like, we are reluctant to tell them just how fabulous our offshore flow has been. After all, where would you rather spend next January?
